Summary Writing!

This lesson is designed for secondary students in order to understand what a summary is and how to do it. This will only take up to 60 minutes if the students commit to the timing of every activity. This lesson plan tackles critical thinking in the first part to try to elicit the lesson from the students; it is also a web-based lesson. Then it will involve listening, writing skills and by the end of the lesson it will involve reading and speaking. This way the 4 skills will be covered in an orderly manner, to enhance the students' skills while learning about summary writing techniques and new vocabulary about poverty.

Upon completion of this lesson, the students should be able to:

  •  Identify new vocabulary related to poverty.

  •  Specify the main ideas of passages and videos.

  • Skim and scan written texts and videos.

  • Differentiate between summarized and original texts.

  • Paraphrase sentences.

  • Use antonyms while paraphrasing.

  • Summarize audios and videos.

  • Summarize written texts.

          You should record an audio of your summary.

          After you are done, submit your recording through the class drive.
