Where grace flows merci thrives.
Dr. Mohamed Mashaly was known as "The Doctor of Poor”. Mohamed Mashaly, was born in 1942 and graduated from Qasr Al-Eini Medical College in 1967. He specialized in internal medicine, paediatrics, and infectious diseases and started his career in medical centers in the countryside. In 1975, he opened his clinic in Al Gharbia. Mashaly dedicated his life to support the poor; he showered all his patients with mercy and generosity.
The Insulin Injection Incident
A diabetic child was in dire need for his insulin injection. However, if his mother bought it for him she won't be able to feed his siblings. The boy decided to set himself on fire to reduce the burden on his mother. The last words the boy muttered were "Mum, I did this so you can spend the insulin money on my siblings". Dr. Mashaly tried to save the boy's soul but in vain. He was overwhelmed by this heartbreaking experience which made him devote his whole life to the poor.
Mashaly only charged his patients (5-10) L.E until the last days of his life in 2020. He also refused to receive fees from the needy and bought them the necessary medications. Although other doctors charge their patients 30 or 40 times these fees. Mashaly's aim wasn't to earn money, his real happiness was to see his patients recovering.
"I reject any kind of donations, and I recommend them to give it to the needy, homeless children, or orphans,” the Doctor of Mercy commented.
"Whoever wants to donate money for me, I would like them to make these donations to the needy in Al Gharbia Governorate," he added.
A heaven-sent mercy returns to heaven
Mashaly was an angel treading on Earth and treating the poor, working in silence without making any kind of propaganda about his hard work.
Dr. Mashaly lived merciful to the poor of a nation and died inspiring the whole world. He left an unforgettable mark.
